Staci Newmahr

Staci Newmahr is an ethnographer and Associate Professor of Sociology at SUNY Buffalo State University, with a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University in 2007. Her research focuses on phenomenologies and narratives of limit ('edge') experiences, including sadomasochism (BDSM), Renaissance Faire devotees, feederism, asexuality, and neo-shamanic journeying, approached from feminist-phenomenological and interactionist perspectives. She is the author of 'Playing on the Edge: Sadomasochism, Risk, and Intimacy' and has received awards for equity and diversity promotion.
