Hilde Spiel (pseudonyms Grace Hanshaw and Jean Lenoir) was an Austrian writer, journalist, translator, and essayist, often called the 'Grande Dame of Austrian literature' for her versatility. She authored novels, stories, cultural histories, and a notable biography of Fanny von Arnstein, while also translating English novels and dramas into German. She received numerous awards and honors throughout her career.
