Solomon Lefschetz

Solomon Lefschetz was a Russian-born American mathematician known for his fundamental contributions to algebraic topology, algebraic geometry, and nonlinear differential equations. After losing both hands in an industrial accident, he continued to do pioneering mathematical work and became a leading figure at Princeton. His ideas helped lay the foundations for several major areas of modern mathematics.
