Sir John Malcolm

Sir John Malcolm (1769-1833) was a Major-General in the Madras Army, diplomat, colonial administrator, and historian who played a crucial role in establishing British supremacy in India.[1][2] He served as a military officer under Wellington, pacified Central India as an administrator, became Governor of Bombay, and led three diplomatic missions to Persia during the early stages of British-Russian rivalry.[4] A polyglot and prolific author, he wrote nine influential books including The History of Persia and served as president of the Literary Society of Bombay.[2][4]
