Simon Patrick
Simon Patrick (1626-1707) was an English theologian and bishop in the Church of England, born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, to merchant Henry Patrick. Educated at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he earned degrees including BA (1648), MA (1651), and later DD from Oxford (1666), he progressed through church roles from vicar of St Mary's, Battersea (1657), to rector of St Paul's, Covent Garden (1662), and ultimately Bishop of Chichester (1689) and Ely (1691). A prolific author, he wrote influential doctrinal and devotional works such as *The Parable of the Pilgrim* (1664) and *The Devout Christian Instructed How to Pray* (1672).[1][2][3]
