Simon Calder

Simon Peter Richie Calder, born on 25 December 1955, is a British freelance travel journalist, broadcaster, and author known as 'the man who pays his way.' Starting with jobs as a cleaner and security guard at Gatwick Airport, he wrote budget travel guidebooks like the Hitch-hiker's Manual: Britain before becoming Travel Correspondent for The Independent in 1994 and a regular on BBC and other media.
