Sidney Greenbaum

Sidney Greenbaum was a distinguished British scholar of the English language and linguistics, known for his work on the grammar of Standard English and for co-authoring 'A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language' with Randolph Quirk. He served as Quain Professor of English Language and Literature at University College London from 1983 to 1990 and was the Director of the Survey of English Usage until 1996. Greenbaum died of heart failure while delivering a lecture at Moscow University on May 28, 1996.
