Shirley Ardener

Shirley Ardener is a pioneering British feminist anthropologist and ethnologist known for her groundbreaking research on women and gender sensitivity, particularly her work with the Bakweri people in Cameroon since the 1950s. She co-developed Muted Group Theory with her husband Edwin Ardener, which explores sociolinguistic power imbalances that suppress social groups' voices. Ardener has also served as a respected academic and author, contributing classics to the field of anthropology.
