Shiela M. Nelson

Sheila Mary Nelson (1936–2020) was an English violinist, violist, music educator, composer, and author, best known for her innovative string teaching methods and publications like the Essential String Method series published by Boosey & Hawkes. She performed with orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Menuhin Festival Orchestra, and dedicated much of her career to teaching, particularly underprivileged children in London's Tower Hamlets through projects emphasizing practical, enjoyable music education. An Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music, she passed away after living with Alzheimer's disease.
