Sharon Murphy

Sharon Ann Murphy is a distinguished Professor of History at Providence College, specializing in the economic history of slavery and Southern expansion in the antebellum United States; she was awarded a 2026 Guggenheim Fellowship for her scholarly work. She is also an author of the book 'Banking on Slavery: Financing Southern Expansion in the Antebellum United States' and has published extensively on the roles of women and ethnic minorities in mass media.
