Sharmila Pixy Ferris

Sharmila Pixy Ferris is a Professor in the Department of Communication at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, where she has taught since 1994, advancing from Associate Professor in 2000 to full Professor in 2005. She earned her Ph.D. in Speech Communication from The Pennsylvania State University in 1995, M.A. in English from Eastern Kentucky University in 1989, B.A. in Psychology and English (Honors) from Berea College in 1986, and an earlier B.A. in English, Economics, and Political Science from St. Xavier’s College in 1983. Ferris has held leadership roles including Director of the Social Justice Project (2013-2017), Co-Director of the M.A. in Professional Communication (2012-2014), and Director of the Center for Teaching (2006-2011).[1][2]
