Sarah Waters

Sarah Waters OBE (born 21 July 1966) is a Welsh novelist best known for her historical fiction novels set in Victorian and Edwardian society, often featuring lesbian protagonists, such as Tipping the Velvet (1998) and Fingersmith (2003).[1][2][3] Born in Neyland, Pembrokeshire, Wales, she studied English Literature, earning degrees from the University of Kent, Lancaster, and a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London, before becoming a celebrated author with numerous awards including Author of the Year multiple times and an OBE in 2019.[1][3][5] She lives in London and has authored six novels adapted for stage, television, and film.[3][6]
