Samuel Johnson
Samuel Johnson (1709–1784), known as Dr. Johnson, was an eminent English man of letters, celebrated as one of the most distinguished figures of 18th-century literature. He is best known for compiling 'A Dictionary of the English Language' (1755), the first great English dictionary, and for his profound contributions as a poet, essayist, critic, and biographer. His aphorisms and conversational brilliance made him one of the most frequently quoted writers in English history.
