Samuel J. Butcher

Samuel J. Butcher (1939–2024) was an American artist best known as the creator of the iconic Precious Moments figurines and illustrations, inspired by his deep Christian faith. Born in Jackson, Michigan, he studied art at the College of Arts & Crafts in Berkeley, California, and co-founded Jonathan & David in 1974 to share his inspirational artwork, which later expanded into a global phenomenon. A philanthropist, he built the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Missouri, attracting millions of visitors.
