S Baring-Gould

Sabine Baring-Gould (1834–1924) was an English Anglican priest, prolific author, hagiographer, antiquarian, novelist, and folk song collector, best known for the hymn 'Onward, Christian Soldiers' and his 16-volume 'Lives of the Saints.' Born near Exeter to a Devon squire family, he studied at Clare College, Cambridge, served as curate in Horbury Bridge where he met his wife Grace Taylor, and later became rector of Lew Trenchard, producing over 1,200 publications across theology, fiction, folklore, and more.
