Ryszard S. Michalski

Ryszard S. Michalski (1937–2007) was a Polish American computer scientist and pioneer in machine learning, widely recognized as the 'father of machine learning.' He developed early handwriting recognition systems in Poland during the 1960s and later founded the Machine Learning Laboratory at George Mason University, where he created influential computational systems including the Learnable Evolution Model and contributed foundational concepts to the field such as conceptual clustering and constructive induction.
