Russell Freedman
Russell Freedman (1929-2018) was an acclaimed American biographer and nonfiction author who wrote nearly 60 books for young people. He won the Newbery Medal in 1988 for Lincoln: A Photobiography, the first nonfiction work to win the award in over 30 years, and pioneered the illustrated 'photobiography' format. Known for his meticulous research, historical accuracy, and commitment to making factual information engaging for young readers, Freedman also received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal and the National Humanities Medal.
