Rupert Hughes
Rupert Hughes (1872–1956) was an American novelist, film director, Oscar-nominated screenwriter, military officer, and prolific writer known for his biographies, fiction, and music books. He began his career as a reporter and magazine editor, authored works like the controversial three-volume biography of George Washington (1926–1930), and transitioned to Hollywood in 1923, directing films such as the Academy Award-nominated 'The Patent Leather Kid' (1927). Hughes served in the National Guard from private to colonel and sustained a successful writing career until his death in Los Angeles.
