Rufus Porter
Rufus Porter (1792–1884) was an American painter, inventor, writer, and publisher best known as the founder of Scientific American. He began as an itinerant portrait and mural painter, then went on to produce patents, technical writings, and newspapers, reflecting his wide-ranging interest in art, science, and innovation.
