Royal Entomological Society of London
The Royal Entomological Society of London was founded in 1833 as the Entomological Society of London, succeeding earlier short-lived entomological societies dating back to 1745. It originated from a meeting of entomological enthusiasts at the British Museum on 3 May 1833, convened by Nicholas Aylward Vigors, with the first official gathering at the Thatched House Tavern on 22 May 1833. The society is dedicated to advancing insect science through research, publication, international collaboration, and maintaining a historic library.[1][2][3][7]
