Ron Rash
Ron Rash is an acclaimed American poet, short story writer, and novelist best known for his vivid portrayals of life in the Appalachian South, particularly in North and South Carolina. Born in 1953 in Chester, South Carolina, he holds the Parris Distinguished Professorship in Appalachian Cultural Studies at Western Carolina University and has received numerous awards, including the O. Henry Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award Finalist distinction for his novel 'Serena'. His works often explore themes of working-class struggles, cultural displacement, and the enduring connection to nature and heritage.
