Ron Freethy
Ron Freethy was born in Barrow-in-Furness in 1936, attended Ulverston Grammar School, trained as a teacher in London, and taught in Burnley from 1962 until 1985 when he became a full-time writer and broadcaster.[1] A keen sportsman who played cricket and rugby, he suffered a heart injury in 1971 and became one of the first in Britain to receive a pacemaker.[1] He authored numerous books on local history, dialect, industries, and bird biology, including Memories of the Lancashire Aircraft Industry, Lankie Twang, How Birds Work, and Memories of the Lancashire Cotton Mills.[1][2][4]
