Romain Rolland

Romain Rolland was a French dramatist, novelist, essayist, and mystic born in 1866 who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1915 for his lofty idealism and humanistic literary works. He is best known for his ten-volume novel 'Jean-Christophe,' which symbolizes the union of European culture through the story of a German musician in France. A passionate pacifist and advocate for the downtrodden, Rolland championed peace, spirituality, and social justice throughout his career, later becoming deeply interested in Indian philosophy and writing a biography of Mahatma Gandhi.
