Robert Philip Koehler
Robert Philip Koehler (1850–1917) was a German-born American painter, art teacher, and arts organizer renowned for his academic realist style and pivotal role in developing arts education and exhibitions in Minnesota. He immigrated to Milwaukee as a child, studied in Munich and New York, and gained fame with his painting 'The Strike,' which earned awards at international exhibitions. Koehler directed the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts from 1893 to 1914, founded the Minnesota State Art Society, and helped establish the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
