Robert N. Anthony

Robert Newton Anthony (1916-2006) was an American organizational theorist, professor of management control at Harvard Business School, and pioneer in management control systems. He served as Assistant Secretary of Defense (Controller) under Robert McNamara, developing new accounting systems to track costs across military branches and reduce waste, earning the Distinguished Public Service Medal. A prolific author and former president of the American Accounting Association, he was inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame in 1986.
