Robert M. Alter

Robert Bernard Alter (born 1935) is an American professor emeritus of Hebrew and comparative literature at the University of California, Berkeley, where he has taught since 1967. He is widely known as a scholar, literary critic, and translator, especially for his influential work on the Hebrew Bible, including a major one-volume English translation completed in 2018.
