Robert Gittings

Robert William Victor Gittings CBE (1911–1992) was an English writer, biographer, poet, playwright, and BBC Radio producer.[1][3] Born in Portsmouth, he was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he earned a first in History and served as a supervisor from 1933 to 1940, later working with the BBC before becoming a freelance writer in 1963.[2][5] He received the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1978 for *The Older Hardy*.[1]
