Richard Scarry
Richard Scarry (1919–1994) was an American children's author and illustrator renowned for his detailed picture books featuring anthropomorphic animals in the fictional town of Busytown, with over 300 books published and more than 100 million copies sold worldwide.[1][2] Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, then began illustrating Little Golden Books in 1949 before creating his own iconic series like *The Best Word Book Ever* in 1963.[3][5] He later lived in Switzerland, where he passed away in Gstaad.[2][5]
