Richard Krautheimer
Richard Krautheimer (1897–1994) was a prominent American art historian born in Germany, renowned for his expertise in early Christian and Byzantine art.[1][2] He began teaching at American universities in 1935, served as a professor of art history at New York University, and later became professor emeritus at the Hertziana Library in Rome.[1][2] Krautheimer is best known for his monumental five-volume work 'Corpus Basilicarum Christianarum Romae' on early Christian basilicas in Rome and 'Rome: Profile of a City, 312-1308,' a key study of the city's history from late antiquity to the Middle Ages.[2][3][4]
