Richard 1290?-1349 Rolle

Richard Rolle of Hampole was an English hermit, mystic, and religious writer born around 1290 in Thornton, Yorkshire, and educated at Oxford and in Paris before embracing a life of contemplation. He became known for influential Latin and Middle English devotional works, including *The Fire of Love* (*Incendium Amoris*) and *The Mending of Life*, and was active near a Cistercian nunnery at Hampole until his death in 1349.
