Rattan Lal
Rattan Lal is a Distinguished University Professor of Soil Science at The Ohio State University and Director of the CFAES Rattan Lal Carbon Management and Sequestration Center, renowned for his pioneering research on soil carbon sequestration, restoration, and sustainable agriculture.[1][3][5] Born in India, he earned his BSc from Punjab Agricultural University (1963), MSc from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (1965), and PhD from Ohio State University (1968), with early career work in Nigeria addressing tropical soil challenges.[2][3] He has authored over 1000 journal articles and 100 books, received prestigious awards including the World Food Prize (2020) and Japan Prize (2019), and mentored numerous students and scholars worldwide.[3][4]
