Rami Rabby

Avraham 'Rami' Rabby was a pioneering disability rights advocate and the first blind U.S. diplomat, who passed the Foreign Service exams in the mid-1980s but was initially rejected due to his blindness. He successfully challenged the State Department's medical disqualification through advocacy, congressional testimony, media, and courts, joining the Foreign Service in 1990 alongside another blind applicant. Over 17 years, he served abroad in the United Kingdom, Peru, India, and Trinidad, and in the U.S. on human rights issues, retiring at age 65.
