Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz

Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz (1937-2020) was an Israeli Chabad rabbi, teacher, philosopher, social critic, author, and translator renowned for his complete modern Hebrew translation and commentary on the Babylonian Talmud, the first since Rashi, and his work on the Bible.[2][3] Born in Jerusalem to secular parents, he studied physics, chemistry, and mathematics at the Hebrew University, became Israel's youngest school principal at age 24, and founded the Israel Institute for Talmudic Publications in 1965 to make Jewish texts accessible.[1][2][4] His mission 'Let My People Know' emphasized knowledge as the path to Judaism, earning him the Israel Prize and international acclaim as a once-in-a-millennium scholar.[1][2][4]
