R. M. Hare

Richard Mervyn Hare (1919–2002) was a British moral philosopher best known for developing universal prescriptivism, a meta-ethical theory that combines prescriptivity and universalizability in moral discourse. He held the position of White's Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Oxford from 1966 to 1983 and later taught at the University of Florida. His influential works, including The Language of Morals (1952) and Freedom and Reason (1963), shaped moral philosophy in the second half of the twentieth century.
