Plutarch Plutarch
Plutarch (c. 46–after 119 CE) was a Greek biographer, philosopher, and priest at the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, born into a wealthy family in Chaeronea, Boeotia, Greece. He studied philosophy, rhetoric, and mathematics in Athens, held public offices in his hometown, lectured in Rome, and is best known for his Parallel Lives, pairing biographies of Greek and Roman figures, and the Moralia essays. His works profoundly influenced European biography, essay, and historical writing.
