Pieter van den Broecke

Pieter van den Broecke (1585–1640) was a Dutch cloth merchant, VOC admiral, and explorer whose voyages took him to Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. He recorded his experiences in a journal that is an important early work of Dutch travel literature, including observations of societies in Senegal and Angola.
