Philip Rahtz
Philip Arthur Rahtz was a prominent British archaeologist born in Bristol in 1921, who began as a freelance excavator and became Professor of Archaeology at the University of York, where he founded the Department of Archaeology.[1][2][3] He conducted key excavations at sites including Cannington, Glastonbury Tor, Cadbury Congresbury, Deerhurst, and Wharram Percy, and authored influential publications like *Rescue Archaeology* (1974).[1] Rahtz died on 2 June 2011 at his home in Harome, North Yorkshire.[2][4]
