Philip R. Davies

Philip R. Davies (1945-2018) was a prominent British biblical scholar, Professor Emeritus of Biblical Studies at the University of Sheffield, and co-founder, publisher, and director of Sheffield Academic Press (originally JSOT Press). He earned his undergraduate degree at Oxford University and PhD at the University of St Andrews, taught briefly in Ghana, and joined Sheffield in the mid-1970s, becoming a personal professor in 1994 until retiring in 2003. Renowned for early works on the Qumran Dead Sea Scrolls and later for his association with the minimalist school in Israelite historiography, he authored influential books like *1QM: The War Scroll from Qumran*, *Behind the Essenes*, and *Scribes and Schools*.[1][2][4][5][6]
