Philip Gilbert Hamerton
Philip Gilbert Hamerton (1834–1894) was an English artist, art critic, author, and etcher known for his advocacy of contemporary printmaking and his role in the English Etching Revival. He wrote influential books on graphic arts such as Etching and Etchers, edited The Portfolio from 1869 until his death, and also authored two novels, Wenderholme (1870) and Marmorne (1878). In later years, he lived near Paris and died suddenly in Boulogne-sur-Mer while working on art writings.[1][3][4]
