Peyo
Pierre Culliford, known by his pseudonym Peyo, was a Belgian comics artist and writer best known for creating The Smurfs and the series Johan and Peewit.[1][2] Born in Brussels in 1928, he began his career after World War II drawing for newspapers like Le Soir and later joined Spirou magazine in the 1950s, introducing the Smurfs in 1958 which became his most popular creation.[1][3] He founded his own studio in 1960 and continued producing works despite health issues until his death in 1992.[1][4]
