Petra Deimer

Petra Deimer (1948–2024) was a German marine biologist, journalist, and nature conservationist who dedicated her career since the mid-1970s to the study and protection of marine mammals, particularly cetaceans. She founded the GSM (Gesellschaft zur Rettung der Delphine) and was instrumental in establishing marine mammal protection zones, notably in the Madeira archipelago, and contributed to CITES bans on commercial trade of several whale species.
