Peter W. Barnes

Peter W. Barnes was a historical figure born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, the youngest of five children to Henry Barnes, a former slave, and Jane Williams Barnes. He settled in Olean, New York around 1879-1880 with family members, worked as a cook at a hotel, never married, and died at age 34 from consumption of the lungs.
