Peter M. Hoffmann
Peter M. Hoffmann is a German-born physicist specializing in nanomechanics, single-molecule biophysics, and soft matter physics, serving as a professor and former chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Wayne State University.[2][4][5] He earned his Ph.D. in 1999, conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, and joined Wayne State in 2001, later authoring the popular science book 'Life’s Ratchet: How Molecular Machines Extract Order from Chaos.'[4][7] Hoffmann has held leadership roles including dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is currently Vice Provost and Professor of Physics at Northern Kentucky University.[4][8]
