Peter K. Austin

Peter Kenneth Austin is an Emeritus Professor in Field Linguistics at SOAS University of London, where he held the Märit Rausing Chair and directed the Endangered Languages Academic Programme until his retirement on 31 December 2018. His research focuses on descriptive, theoretical, and applied linguistics, particularly the documentation and revitalization of endangered languages, including Australian and Austronesian languages like Sasak. He has received prestigious awards such as the Humboldt Prize in 2002 and Humboldt Research Award in 2010 and 2019-20, along with an Honorary Doctorate from Uppsala University in 2015.
