Peter D. Lax

Peter D. Lax was a Hungarian-born mathematician renowned for his foundational work in numerical analysis, hyperbolic partial differential equations, scattering theory, and computational mathematics. A longtime professor and director at New York University's Courant Institute, he helped shape modern methods used in weather prediction, aerodynamics, and wave phenomena, and received the Abel Prize in 2005.
