Peter Cooley

Peter Cooley is an American poet born in Detroit, Michigan, who earned degrees from Shimer College, the University of Chicago, and the University of Iowa's Writers' Workshop. He taught at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay before joining Tulane University in 1975 as Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing until 2018, serving as Louisiana's poet laureate in 2015 and publishing numerous poetry collections with Carnegie Mellon University Press. He was poetry editor for the North American Review from 1970 to 2000 and currently edits for Christianity and Literature, with his work appearing in major publications and anthologies.
