Peter Carr

Harry Lawson 'Peter' Carr (1925–1981) was a comparative literature professor at California State University, Long Beach, where he co-founded the Department of Comparative Literature, and an influential outsider artist, poet, and activist.[1][4] Born in Pasadena, he served in the US Navy, earned a PhD in Comparative Mythology from USC, studied in India on a Fulbright Fellowship, and co-founded the Orange County Alliance for Survival, authoring self-published books like *Aliso Creek* and *In the Summer We Went to the Mountains*.[4] He died of a heart attack in 1981.[1]
