Penny M. Von Eschen

Penny M. Von Eschen is an American historian and professor of history and American studies at the University of Virginia. Her scholarship focuses on American and African-American history, U.S. diplomacy, the history of music, and the relationship of these fields to decolonization, and she has written books including *Race against Empire*, *Satchmo Blows Up the World*, and *Paradoxes of Nostalgia*.
