Pekka Hamalainen

Pekka Hämäläinen is the Rhodes Professor of American History at St Catherine's College, University of Oxford, specializing in early and nineteenth-century North America, indigenous, colonial, imperial, environmental, and borderlands history. He is the author of acclaimed books including The Comanche Empire (2008), winner of the Bancroft Prize, Lakota America: A New History of Indigenous Power (2019), and Indigenous Continent: The Epic Contest for North America (2022). His work challenges traditional narratives by emphasizing Native American power, resistance, and influence in shaping North American history.
