Paula E. Hyman

Paula E. Hyman was an American historian specializing in modern Jewish history and a pioneer in Jewish feminist scholarship, authoring key works like 'The Jewish Woman in America' (1976) and serving as the Lucy Moses Professor at Yale University. She co-founded the activist group Ezrat Nashim in 1971 to advocate for women's ordination as Conservative rabbis and held landmark roles including the first female dean of the Jewish Theological Seminary's Seminary College of Jewish Studies. Hyman transformed Jewish studies by integrating gender perspectives on assimilation and acculturation, authoring ten books and numerous articles before her death from cancer in 2011.[1][2][3]
